I was in the mood for a steak, but wanted to try somewhere different from my usual places. A quick search online turned up a name I'd seen a few times, Ludlow & Prime in Brentwood.
Ludlow & Prime is a southern-inspired steak and seafood restaurant, divided into a more casual bar area and nicer dining area. I was in the mood for the upscale experience so opted to sit in the dining area.
It is a relatively small space overall, but well utilized as I never felt cramped at all. Its mostly open table seating, but there are a couple large booths and a decent sized room for a large party.
There were several items on the menu that caught my attention and will warrant future visits, but as I said I was in the mood for a good steak.
I only occasionally get an appetizer especially when I dine alone, but they had a small deviled egg app so I opted for that.
I love a good deviled egg and this one did not disappoint. A nice mix of flavors, not overdone at all. I'm glad there were only two, would definitely eaten more if they were on the plate.
I opted for my favorite cut, the New York Strip. It tends to have similar flavor profile as a Rib Eye, but without all the extra fat. Of course this means that if not cooked properly it can be dry and tough. This one was neither.
It was a beautiful cut of meat and cooked to perfection. This was somewhere between Medium and Medium-Rare. Tender, juicy and full of flavor. I added the asparagus side and it was excellent. Nice, thick spears of asparagus cooked perfectly.
I was in the mood to finish the meal off with something sweet. They had a limited dessert offering and I opted for the cheesecake
It looked nice, but it didn't taste like they made it in-house. I suspect it was frozen, store bought cheesecake. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't order it again.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, because this is in a shopping complex I went in with moderate expectations. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere, staff, and food were all excellent -- with the one exception being dessert.
Prices were not outrageous, but they were typical steakhouse prices. It is definitely a place I will return to and would recommend. However, I would add the one caveat, if you want dessert, plan to go somewhere else. Maybe across the way to Jeni's for some excellent ice cream.
Definitely a should try place, and one I will return to in the future.
